I earned my English Literature degree from Brooklyn College in 2009, focusing on journalism. I worked on the college newspaper all four years and earned my first paycheck as writer when I was 19. Since then, I've been published in several books, many magazines, and a few websites. I've shifted careers a few times, but it's always come back to stories.
I first learned about podcasts in 2018, when a friend suggested I turn my interview series, Sustaining Craft, into a podcast instead of an article series. He got me started on the technical side, and I taught myself how to record and edit audio. Since then, the podcast has gotten over 5,000 downloads, and I've relaunched after a two-year break. I also host a dog training podcast via Telltail Dog Training, and I began a podcast called Emblem of Our House with my mother, which covers the death of my sister.
I've offered a few workshops over the years, and I'm excited to provide more. I've hosted several workshops with other local talent, and I'll be offering additional ones around stories, marketing, and business.
Sustaining Craft has always been about passion. It's tempting to think of business, especially creative businesses, as a simple structure that has simple steps to success. But there is no one path. We all have to figure out what works best for us and our vision.
Our stories are what make us unique. I've heard a lot of variation on "My story is like most peoples", followed by a very unique perspective. I want to gather those stories - the ordinary ones that just need a platform.
Subscribe to the podcast, pitch me if you think you'd be a good fit for it, join a workshop, or snag a copy of one of my e-books to follow my journey and what I've learned along the way. It's okay to start messy.
